Was Nevada the first state with a majority-female legislature?
Nevada became the first state with a majority-female legislature in 2018, after the Clark County Commission appointed two women to a pair of open seats in the Assembly. After that, women occupied 32 of the Legislature’s 63 seats. In 2020, that female majority expanded to 38 seats.
Nevada remains the only state in the country to have a majority-female legislature. Nationwide, about 29.3% of state legislators were female as of 2020.
