Today, a majority of Americans get their news on chaotic online forums like X, Instagram, TikTok, BlueSky, NextDoor and WhatsApp, or from influencers and political actors.

Gigafact works with nonpartisan local newsrooms (some of the most trusted sources for community information) to identify and respond to everyday questions, rumors, confusions and claims that circulate on these platforms via fact briefs. In so doing, newsrooms gain a new way to inform their readers, build civic bridges, hold public officials to account, and engage readers.

One of the major challenges facing local news is how to connect with audiences and build trust. Fact briefs, an editorial product developed by Gigafact, give newsrooms a way to respond to real questions, confusions, rumors and claims circulating in their communities with genuinely useful facts. Our training, tools and services help newsrooms spot the conversations where they can do the most good.

Fact briefs are designed for modern media consumption habits. In other words, they are short—always under 150 words. All briefs pose the key question at hand in the title, and answer with a clear “yes” or “no”, delivering clarity and a neutral explanation backed by high quality sources.

Gigafact builds AI tools to support reporting and fact-checking. Our tools are used by newsrooms across the U.S. for research into the statements and claims of elected officials and influential public figures.
