Is Nevada’s health care system ranked low nationally?
There is no definitive ranking of state health care systems, but many organizations offer rankings based on specific data or criteria. In 2021, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, which assesses states' quality of care using measures such as safety, efficacy and affordability, listed Nevada in its bottom quartile without a specific rank. In 2020, The Commonwealth Fund ranked Nevada 49th (out of the 50 states and D.C.) in health care overall and last by a wide margin in the “prevention and treatment” category. WalletHub’s 2022 study rates Nevada 37th overall based on poor "access" and "outcomes" scores but an above-average "cost" score.
NiceRx's 2022 hospital quality ranking compiles results from other studies, and only Vermont received a lower rating than Nevada.
Across the rankings, Nevada is generally ranked in the bottom third nationally.
