Is Florida the 14th largest economy in the world?

Florida would rank 16th if compared to other country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 

The Florida Chamber of Commerce announced that if inserted into global economic rankings, its $1.8 trillion economy, as of April, would place 14th. Florida GOP gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds echoed the chamber’s claim at the 2026 Midterm RNC on Sept. 9.

However, data from the World Economic Outlook would put Florida in 16th behind South Korea ($1.93 trillion).

Ranking Florida’s GDP against other countries isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, and its official placement hasn’t been independently verified by reputable sources.

If other states were also added into the global rankings, Florida would place even lower behind California, Texas and New York.

The Florida 2030 Blueprint lists goals for the state to accomplish by the next four years, including ranking in the top 10 global economies.
