Did David Jolly vote to defund Planned Parenthood in 2015?
While serving in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015 as a member of the GOP, David Jolly –– who is now running for Florida governor as a Democrat –– voted in favor of a bill that would have threatened to remove federal funding from Planned Parenthood.
His opponent in this year’s gubernatorial race, Byron Donalds, claimed during a Sept. 26 campaign event that Jolly had voted in favor of the bill to highlight the fact that Jolly now wants to codify the legal framework of Roe v. Wade in Florida.
The 2015 bill would have prohibited federal funds from Planned Parenthood for one year unless it certified that none of its clinics would perform abortions. The House passed the bill 241-187 at the time, but it ultimately died in the Senate and failed to become a law.
