Does Missouri have the most Democratic candidates running for state and congressional office in the state this century?
A total of 236 Democratic candidates filed for state and congressional races, the party’s highest total this century, according to the Missouri Democratic Party. Democrats are running in 184 of 189 races — about 97% — including every state Senate and congressional district, according to the Missouri Democratic Party. In the state House of Representatives, candidates filed in 158 of 163 districts.
Several races are contested within the party, with 20 House districts and five Senate races featuring Democratic primaries, as well as a two-candidate primary for state auditor, according to the Missouri Democratic Party.
The filing period also showed gaps among Republican candidates, with no candidate filing in 25 House districts and one Senate district, according to the Missouri Democratic Party.
Missouri’s next general election will take place Nov. 3, 2026.
