Do California and Nevada have basically identical homicide rates?
According to the Centers for Disease Control's National Vital Statistics System, age-adjusted data from 2020 indicates that California had a homicide rate of 6.1 per 100,000 residents, with 2,368 recorded homicides, while Nevada had a homicide rate of 7.3 per 100,000 residents, with 217 recorded homicides. 2020 is the most recent year for which the CDC has comprehensive data. States’ homicide rates range from a low of 0 per 100,000 in Vermont to a high of 20.5 per 100,000 in Mississippi.
Nevada's suicide rate of 18.2 per 100,000 is significantly higher than California's rate of 10 per 100,000.
