Did Kamala Harris say she wants to let undocumented immigrants vote?
Vice President Kamala Harris has not said she wants to allow undocumented immigrants to vote.
The claim was made on Wisconsin radio by Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley. He said Harris has said “she’s going to give them a pathway to amnesty and is going to give them the right to vote.”
GOP spokespersons did not reply to requests for information to back Whatley’s attack.
Harris has campaigned supporting “an earned pathway to citizenship,” but hasn’t provided details.
Federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections.
Election administration experts say it’s been demonstrated that the number of noncitizens voting in federal elections is infinitesimal.
Some localities, including the District of Columbia, allow noncitizens, such as permanent residents, to vote in local elections.
A Republican-led constitutional amendment referendum on Wisconsin ballots Nov. 5 would reaffirm that only U.S. citizens may vote in federal, state and local elections in Wisconsin.
