Do fully vaccinated people make up 40% of COVID-19 deaths in Maryland?

By Alexis Tereszcuk
NO

People took notice when former Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield said on TV that more than 40% of the people who died in Maryland from Aug. 23, 2021, to Oct. 18, 2021, were fully vaccinated.

The deputy director for media relations for the Maryland Department of Health said the real percentage was 32%, a difference of 32 people in this case.

"As the number of our residents who are vaccinated continues to increase, we expect to see an increase in the proportion of COVID-related deaths occurring in vaccinated individuals," the deputy director said. "Many of these deaths are linked to comorbidities that make patients more vulnerable."
