Did turnout in the 2024 Nevada GOP presidential caucus set a record high?

By Sean Golonka
NO

Voter turnout in Nevada’s party-run Republican presidential caucus was more than 60,000 this year, according to the Nevada Republican Party. That was about 15,000 votes short of the record set in the 2016 caucus of 75,000.

Turnout in the 2024 caucus was dampened in part by a lack of competition. The caucus came two days after a separate primary and saw former President Donald Trump win more than 99 percent of the vote against just one long-shot candidate, Texas pastor and businessman Ryan Binkley.

That was unlike the 2016 contest, which saw Trump secure about 46 percent of the vote in a more crowded field.

Turnout was even greater in this year’s state-run Republican primary, which did not feature Trump on the ballot. In that election, more than 80,000 Republican voters cast votes.
