Did the CEO of Pfizer recently explain why he hasn’t gotten the COVID-19 vaccine yet?

no

A clip from a December 2020 interview with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla is making the rounds on social media. Sharers purport that it shows Bourla explaining why he hasn't taken the vaccine. In fact, the clip is taken out of context, and Bourla is fully vaccinated.

In the full interview — which was done months before vaccines became readily available in the United States — Bourla explained that he was waiting his turn as he did not then meet the criteria for those in the priority groups during the vaccine rollout.

"I don't want to have an example that I'm cutting the line. I'm 59 years old in good health, I'm not working in the front line. And so, my type is not recommended to get vaccination now," Bourla said in the interview.

Lead Stories confirmed that Bourla has been fully vaccinated since March 2021.
