Did comedian Jim Carrey say closing media for 30 days would eliminate 80% of the world’s problems?

Christiana Dillard, Lead Stories

no

Someone on social media who agreed with the sentiment posted a photo of comedian and actor Jim Carrey with the quote, "I say we close down the national media for 30 days and watch 80% of the world's problem go away."

Carrey's publicist wrote in an email that he never said it.

The quote has appeared without his name attached in March 2020.

Carrey has famously been critical of right-wing media and social media rather than national mainstream media as a whole. In an original political cartoon in January 2021, he equated Fox News to brain cancer.
