Is Providence’s downtown skatepark closed permanently?

The downtown skatepark on Adrian Hall Way will reopen after additions to Trinity Repertory Company Theater are completed. Renovations to the theater are expected to be done in June 2027. 

On April 3, 2025, Providence City Council approved plans for the theater to expand their building and transform Adrian Hall Way “from a traditional roadway into a pedestrian-focused public plaza.” The plans were finalized after years of debate between the City, the theater and the local skateboarding community who use the city-owned lot across the small roadway.

The outdoor plaza was an active skating location for years before it was renovated in 2018 as the Trinity Skate Spot, with the support of local skaters, the City of Providence, businesses and nonprofits, private donors and the Tony Hawk Foundation.

As the theater completes renovations on their property, the City will complete work on the plaza.
