Did people displaying a Patriot Front banner demonstrate in front of the Iryna Zarutska mural in Providence?
A group of people displaying a Patriot Front banner demonstrated in front of the Iryna Zarutska mural in downtown Providence in April 2026.
The banner, which reads “Reclaim America,” is pictured on the Patriot Front website, and uses the same red and white arrows as the group’s logo.
Zarutska was a Ukrainian refugee killed in 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina by a Black man with a criminal record and history of mental illness. In a video posted May 20, 2026, on X, Patriot Front members in Providence claimed Zarutska was “killed because she was white.” In June 2026, the suspected killer was found incompetent to stand trial.
The since-removed mural was funded by a network of conservative donors like Elon Musk.
The Southern Poverty Law Center designates Patriot Front a white nationalist hate group. “White” is absent from the group’s manifesto, which instead employs terms like “national identity” and “heritage.”
