Will women make up a majority of the 2023 Nevada Legislature?

Following the 2022 election, 38 (60%) of Nevada’s 63 legislators will be women. Colorado will also join Nevada as only the second state with a female-majority legislature.
Nevada elected its first female state legislator in 1919. In 2019, Nevada became the first state to have a majority of female legislators. That year, 52% of the state’s legislators were women. Their majority grew to 60% in the 2021 session.
According to the Center for American Women and Politics, before the 2022 election, there were 2,293 women state legislators nationwide (31% of the total). Of those, 66% were Democrats, 33% were Republicans and 1% were nonpartisan or from other parties.
