Was Steve Sisolak the only incumbent governor to lose in the 2022 election?

yes

With the results of the Alaska governor’s race pending, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak is the only incumbent governor to lose re-election in 2022. There were 28 governors seeking re-election; the remaining 22 governors are either continuing their time in office (14), were term-limited from office (7), or decided not to seek re-election (1).

The only gubernatorial race not called in the week after the election was in Alaska, where incumbent Governor Mike Dunleavy appears on track to win re-election.

It’s rare for incumbent governors to lose re-election. In 2018, only two sitting governors lost, and in 2014, only three lost their re-election bid.
