Does Tick Segerblom publicly identify as a communist?

By Austin Tannenbaum
NO

While Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom does endorse democratic socialism, he does not publicly identify as a communist.

In November 2021, Segerblom sarcastically tweeted, “I guess I’m a communist bastard,” apparently quoting the words of protesters shouting outside his house.

Segerblom wrote to The Indy, “While I'm not sure what a ‘communist’ is, my political philosophy is being a liberal democrat in the mold of Senator Bernie Sanders — I believe in social security, medicare, universal health care and making the rich and corporations pay their fair share.”

In February 2021, the Las Vegas Democratic Socialists of America referred to Segerblom as a member of its chapter. The organization’s stated vision is “a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.”

Segerblom assumed the role of commissioner in 2019 and was reelected in November 2022 for a second four-year term.
