Has a candidate ever won an election posthumously in Nevada?
Republican Dennis Hof won a seat as the representative of Nevada State Assembly District 36 in the November 2018 election, one month after his death, beating out candidate Lesia Romanov by 7,121 votes. According to Nevada law, if a candidate whose name appears on the ballot for a primary or general election dies before the polls close, the candidate is to remain on the ballot, and the county clerk is required to post a notice of the candidate’s death at each polling location where the candidate’s name appears on the ballot. After Dennis Hof’s victory, Gregory Hafen, the current incumbent representative for Nevada State Assembly District 36, was chosen as Hof’s replacement by county commissions in Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties during a short joint meeting.
