Did Trump advocate against war during his 2024 presidential campaign?
President Donald Trump repeatedly claimed he would be a leader that would “stop wars” during his campaign and immediately following his 2024 election victory.
The Feb. 28 U.S. and Israel bombing of Iran has sparked backlash from Democrats and Republicans alike who are wary of another conflict in the Middle East and say Trump isn’t staying true to his word.
During his remarks accepting the results of the 2024 election, Trump said “I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.”
Trump echoed a similar sentiment during his Jan. 20, 2025, inauguration speech, where he said the United States’ power “will stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent and totally unpredictable.”
Though the United State. is not officially at war with Iran, its actions are a stark contrast to Trump’s recent stance of avoiding violent international affairs.
