Fact Brief: Are the San Jose Sharks seeing a year-over-year decline in home games attendance in 2025?

While attendance at San Jose Sharks home games has significantly dropped in the past five years compared to historical highs, it has still seen year-over-year growth.

Average attendance for the 2024-25 season was 14,219, which is 81.6% of SAP Center’s capacity, according to box office records. That’s slightly up from the 2023-24 season’s average of 14,213, and higher than 13,899 in 2022-23 and 12,565 in 2021-22. SAP Center, also known as the Shark Tank, can hold 17,435 as of 2025.

 The Athletic reports the Sharks’ year-over-year attendance growth is among the highest in the NHL, despite averaging near the bottom for attendance and rankings.

The Sharks’ home game attendance was consistently at or near capacity from 1993-2020, until a dramatic drop-off after the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lower rankings in the NHL.
