Does a video show a Taliban killing in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021?

By Sarah Thompson
NO

Both social media and at least one news organization in India have posted a video that shows a tiny woman fatally shot, allegedly for adultery.

But when and where did it happen?

The posters say Afghanistan and now, blaming the Taliban.

But the video was written about in 2015, by Reuters, which quoted a monitoring group as saying it took place in Syria by the Nusra Front. They are the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda.

This fact brief is responsive to conversations such as this one.
