Does the Texas Department of Public Safety take walk-ins for identification services?

An appointment will be necessary for all driver's licenses and identification card services, including driving tests, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

If no appointments are available at your nearest location, you should check availability at another location or monitor the scheduling portal for cancellations.

Individuals who arrive at a driver's license office without an appointment can use a self-service kiosk to browse for same-day appointments or schedule for another day or location.

Most driver's license office locations offer same-day appointments, but availability is limited. You can check availability online on the DPS appointment portal. 

Many services offered at driver's license offices are accessible online for eligible applicants. When making an appointment through the appointment scheduler, the program will ask for information such as your driver's license number and the last four digits of your Social Security number to find out if you’re eligible to complete services online.
