Does Kari Lake support a total abortion ban?

By Austin Tannenbaum
NO

While Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake identifies as strongly “pro-life,” her stance falls short of supporting a total abortion ban.

On the Oct. 9, 2022 airing of Face the Nation, Lake said she would “follow the law” on limits to abortion in Arizona: "The law right now as it stands is Gov. Ducey's law at 15 weeks, so we'll follow the law."

On Oct. 7, 2022, an appeals court blocked enforcement of an 1864 law that banned abortions in Arizona except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk, allowing abortions to resume under the 15-week law enacted earlier this year.

In June, while the Republican primary was taking place, Lake stated in an interview, "I'm incredibly thrilled that we are going to have a great law that's already on the books,” referring to the 1864 law. However, she has since endorsed permitting abortion in cases of rape and incest.
