Does Arizona offer less extensive veteran benefits than some other states?

By Carmela Guaglianone
YES

Though Arizona offers several benefits to veterans, it consistently ranks below states like Texas and Florida when it comes to financial incentives, educational perks and health care for those who served in the military.

Veterans in Florida and Texas receive free in-state tuition and pay no state income taxes. In Arizona, only veterans with a purple heart qualify for tuition waivers, and state income tax exemptions are capped at $2,500. Arizona also had one of the worst rankings for veteran health care in the country in an analysis conducted earlier this year by financial advice website WalletHub.

Common state benefits for veterans include property tax exemptions for those with disabilities, academic credit for military service and discounted state park, hunting and fishing licenses. Federal benefits include veteran-specific health care and facilities, life insurance programs and pensions.
