Does a picture of encampments on a farm in Australia show an offshoot of Canada's 'Freedom Convoy'?

By Christiana Dillard
NO

An aerial image in a social media post purporting to show several vehicles and hundreds of encampments in Canberra, Australia, is actually a photo of a festival site in England taken in 2019.

The "Freedom Convoy," which originated in Canada in January 2022 to protest the COVID-19 vaccination mandates for truckers and the general public, has gained support internationally, including in Canberra. However, the extent of that support is not nearly as extensive as the social media post suggests and the image used in the post is misattributed.

Stock photography website Alamy has the same aerial image in its catalogue: a photo of the 2019 Glastonbury Festival site at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England.
