Did Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo appoint a fossil fuel executive to head the Office of Energy?

By Esther Tsvayg
YES

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo announced Dwayne McClinton, who served on the new governor’s transition team, as the new Director of the Office of Energy on Feb. 2, 2023.

McClinton currently serves as a senior legislative policy adviser at Southwest Gas, an energy company that supplies natural gas, which is a fossil fuel that emits carbon dioxide when burned. In the 2021 legislative session, McClinton was registered with the Nevada Legislature as a paid lobbyist for the Southwest Gas Corporation.

Prior to his work at Southwest Gas, Dwayne Clinton served in the renewable energy industry as the North American field operations manager for Titan Renewables, the regional operations manager for Gamesa North America and a staff project manager at Granite Services. Additionally, McClinton has worked at Clipper Wind Power, First Wind and the Shiloh Wind Farm.
