Did Nevada amend its election laws in 2021, changing the state’s mail-in voting requirements?
After passing emergency legislation expanding mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic, state lawmakers in Nevada passed Assembly Bill 321 in 2021. This adopted a permanent vote-by-mail system, meaning that every registered voter with a confirmed address on file with election officials is automatically sent a mail-in ballot, unless they actively request to opt-out of receiving a mail ballot.
In the 2018 general election, absentee ballots had to be formally requested, and only about 9% of ballots were cast through the mail. In the 2022 general election, more than half of Nevadans (51.4%) voted by mail.
