Did Katie Hobbs say ‘it’s ridiculous to focus on the border’?
Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat running for governor in Arizona, did tell The Arizona Republic it was "ridiculous" to specifically make Title 42—a federal, pandemic-era policy to expedite the removal of people who’d entered the country illegally—a core issue in the state’s gubernatorial race. But she has not said it’s ridiculous to discuss border issues in general. In fact, she released a campaign ad focused on the topic, with two Arizona sheriffs backing her border security platform.
Hobbs also has a page dedicated to the border on her campaign website, where she proposes to increase staffing and technology at ports of entry, address backlogs in immigration cases, and support comprehensive immigration reform, among other plans.
