Did Tony Evers veto bills that would have allowed guns on school grounds?
Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers vetoed two bills related to guns on school grounds in April 2022.
Evers vetoed Assembly Bill 495, which would have allowed people with a concealed carry license to possess a firearm in a vehicle on school grounds.
Republicans who supported the bill said it would protect parents from accidentally violating state law if they have a firearm in their vehicle when picking up or dropping off children from school.
Evers also vetoed Assembly Bill 597, which would have allowed people with a concealed carry license to possess a firearm in a place of worship located on the grounds of a private school.
In his veto messages, Evers said the bills would weaken Wisconsin's gun-free school zone law.
Republicans plan to bring back some of the 100-plus bills Evers vetoed if Republican businessman Tim Michels is elected governor.
