Did Gov. Joe Lombardo veto the most bills in a single Nevada legislative session?

yes

During the 82nd Nevada legislative session, which took place between Feb. 6 and June 5, 2023, Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed 75 bills — the most ever for a single Nevada legislative session.

Republican Former Gov. Jim Gibbons had previously set the single-session veto record when he vetoed 48 bills in 2009. Republican former Gov. Brian Sandoval holds the record for most vetoes in office, with 97 over eight years.

The vetoed bills include measures that would have legalized physician-assisted suicide and collective bargaining for higher education employees and continued universal free school breakfast and lunch.

“Nevadans elected me to protect and serve our state – which includes protecting Nevadans from harmful and dangerous legislation,” Lombardo said in a statement.

Veto overrides must receive the backing of two-thirds of both the Assembly and Senate. Democrats hold a two-thirds majority in the Assembly but not in the Senate, making veto overrides highly unlikely.
