Can Mississippi residents qualify completely online to get a concealed carry permit for a gun?

By Sarah Thompson
NO

A misleading online advertisement is tricking people into thinking they can qualify online for a concealed carry permit using confusing language and false urgency.

The ad says Mississippi residents can "qualify for a concealed carry permit 100% online" and warns the loophole enabling this will soon close.

But there is no loophole. To legally possess a firearm in Mississippi, individuals must fill out paperwork, complete an in-person training course, and pay a fee. Once approved, they may carry a concealed firearm without further qualifications.

Lead Stories traced the ad to a Las Vegas address. The company located there, Concealed Coalition Inc., has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Misleading ads from companies offering online "qualification" for concealed carry permits have been circulating online for years, aimed at gun owners in various states.

This fact brief is responsive to conversations such as this one.
