Are tens of thousands of mail ballots received after Election Day in Nevada?

In the 2022 general election, secretary of state records show that Nevada’s two most populous counties, Clark and Washoe, received more than 45,500 ballots after Election Day (5,681 in Washoe and 39,915 in Clark).

The ballots represented about 5.8 percent of all ballots received in Clark County and 2.9 percent in Washoe County.

Under Nevada law, elections officials can accept mail ballots for up to four business days after Election Day as long as they are postmarked before polls close.

Republicans are challenging the law, arguing that it extends counting past Election Day and therefore violates federal law.

Nevada is one of eight states that allow elections to be conducted entirely by mail. These include Oregon, which counts ballots received up to seven days after Election Day, and Utah, which only requires that ballots be postmarked by the day before Election Day.
