Are IDs required to vote in Minnesota?

no

Minnesota is one of 14 states and the District of Columbia that does not require voter ID at the polls, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

If your registration is current in Minnesota, you are not required to bring ID to vote. If you need to update your registration or register to vote in Minnesota for the first time, you will need to present proof of residence.

As of September 2026, 36 states have voter ID laws. Of those, 14, including Wisconsin, are “strict,” requiring a voter to present ID in order for their vote to count.

An analysis by the Brookings Institute of election fraud data compiled by the Heritage Foundation found that in seven swing states, documented cases of voter fraud totalled less than 100 each, out of millions of ballots cast. That’s 0.00015% or less as a percentage, according to Brookings.
