Are CT men under 26 always enrolled for selective service when licensed to drive?

Mariana Navarrete Villegas, CT Mirror

yes

Men between 18 and 25 in Connecticut have been registered with the selective service when applying for a driver’s license since at least 2013.

Applications for obtaining or renewing a license state that submitting the form serves as consent for registration with the Selective Service System, according to section 14-36l of Connecticut’s General Statutes.

If a larger military is needed for a national emergency, Congress would have to approve reinstatement of the draft. Those inducted would come from the Selective Service System pool. The last time a draft was in effect was in the early 1970s during the Vietnam War.

In a draft, there would be a lottery. Men who turn 20 in the year of the draft would get called first. Men between 21 and 25 would be next, followed by 19-year-olds and then individuals more than six months past their 18th birthday.
