Could a new bill require law enforcement to work with ICE when making arrests?

Republican Sen. Wendy Rogers, R-Flagstaff, has introduced a bill that would compel state and local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), during arrests. Senate Bill 1055 would require officers to notify ICE or Customs and Border Patrol when an arrestee is believed to be unlawfully present in the U.S. 

Advocacy groups like the Arizona AFL-CIO have condemned the measure as harmful to immigrant and Indigenous workers, saying it would undermine trust between communities and police. Migrant rights organizations, such as Lucha Arizona and Poder in Action, also mobilized at the Capitol to oppose the legislation, arguing mandatory cooperation with ICE could discourage crime reporting in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods.
