Fact brief: Is Fort Worth the largest US city with a Republican mayor?
Fort Worth is the second-largest city in the nation with a Republican mayor, behind only Dallas.
Dallas’ Eric Johnson leads a city with more than 1.3 million people, while Fort Worth’s Mattie Parker is mayor for over 1 million residents.
Johnson was a Democrat before switching to the Republican Party in 2023. He was previously elected as a Democrat during six terms in the Texas House.
While Johnson and Parker are Republicans, both were elected as nonpartisan candidates. Texas does not require candidates to run with a party for city and other local offices.
