Has violent crime trended downward in Nevada over the last 25 years?

Both violent and property crime rates declined in Nevada over the past quarter century. 

Nevada’s 2024 crime rates were at their lowest level since at least 1986, the earliest year of FBI crime data. 

In 1999, Nevada had 10,311 violent and 74,498 property crimes. 

With 1.81 million people in 1999, according to Census data, Nevada’s violent crime rate was 570 offenses per 100,000 people and property crime rate was 4,118 offenses per 100,000 people. 

In 2024, Nevada had 13,135 violent and 72,179 property crimes. 

With 3.27 million people in 2024, according to Census data, Nevada’s violent crime rate was 402 offenses per 100,000 people and property crime rate was 2,209 offenses per 100,000 people. 

This marks a 29 percent decrease in the violent crime rate and 46 percent decrease in the property crime rate from 1999 to 2024.
