Does Nevada ban AI therapists?
A law (AB406) passed in May that created a list of regulations on Artificial Intelligence (AI) therapists.
The bill states that public schools, including charter and gifted schools, may not use AI to perform the duties of school counselors, school psychologists or school social workers, regarding the mental health of students.
There is some leeway that allows for AI to schedule appointments, manage records, analyze data and organize or track notes regarding a student.
The law also prohibits AI providers from creating a system that would simulate a real-life professional mental or behavioral health care provider.
Anyone who violates the law would be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $15,000.
