Is support among younger voters at least as strong for Biden as it was for Clinton in 2016?

By Allegra Taylor
YES

Polls have repeatedly shown Joe Biden drawing somewhat more support among younger voters than Hillary Clinton in her 2016 contest.

A June 2020 survey of 18-29 year-olds found 58% expressing support for Joe Biden, compared to 24% for Donald Trump. That is a wider margin than the former Secretary of State achieved in 2016 against Trump, when she won 55% of the youth vote. One pre-election poll in 2016 pegged Clinton support at 46%.

Other polls have found smaller differences in youth support between Biden and Clinton, but no polls have shown significantly lower youth voter support for Biden.

ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTOR
Between 2020 and 2022, under close editorial supervision, Gigafact contracted a group of freelance writers and editors to test the concepts for fact briefs and provide inputs to our software development process. We call this effort Gigafact Foundry. Over the course of these two years, Gigafact Foundry writers published over 1500 fact briefs in response to claims they found online. Their important work forms the basis of Gigafact formats and editorial guidelines, and is available to the public on Gigafact.org.
