Is Nevada’s National Guard doing law enforcement in other states?
Nevada’s National Guard is not assisting on federal law enforcement missions in the District of Columbia or any other states or cities, including in Chicago, Nevada National Guard spokesman Emerson Marcus said in early September.
In early August, Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo confirmed he authorized about 30 guardsmen to temporarily assist the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in immigration enforcement duties, starting this September. According to the state’s National Guard, the “the request focuses on clerical, administrative and logistical support — not law enforcement duties.”
The request to assist DHS is separate from the activation of the DC National Guard or any discussion of the use of guardsmen in other states or cities, including potentially in Chicago, Marcus said, with state troops remaining under Lombardo’s control.
Trump said he is deploying National Guard troops to D.C. counteract “out of control” crime. He is also eyeing deploying troops to Chicago using a similar justification.
