Is Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe the only governor without any higher education?

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe does not hold a college degree, but he is not the only governor without higher education.

Forty-eight of the nation’s governors hold at least a bachelor’s degree, while two do not. Kehoe and South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden are the only sitting governors without a college degree. No states have formal educational requirements to become governor.

Kehoe is not the first Missouri governor to hold office without a college degree. His predecessor, Mike Parson, took classes at the University of Maryland and University of Hawaii while in the U.S. Army but did not earn a degree.

Of the 192 officials nationwide holding the top four state executive positions, only five do not have a higher education degree. They are Kehoe, Rhoden, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser of Louisiana, Lt. Gov. Craig Blair of West Virginia and South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson.
