Is Colorado the state with the most bank robberies?

no

While Colorado has ranked among the top three states with the most bank robberies several times in recent years, it hasn’t led the nation in bank heists since 2021.

Colorado saw 104 bank robberies in 2023, the most recent year for which nationwide FBI data is available. Two states had more bank robberies that year — California, with 192, and Illinois, with 116. There were 1,263 bank robberies across the United States.

During a nationwide bank robbery spike in 2021, Colorado had the grim distinction of being No. 1 with 191. Around 150 of those robberies occurred in the Denver metro area. Bank robberies in Denver have since trended downward, dropping sharply to 34 in 2024.

Across the United States, the number of bank robberies has generally been decreasing since 2017. Overall robberies are on the decline in Colorado, from 4,466 in 2022 to 3,786 in 2024.
