Is California the most common state of birth for Nevada residents?
Although many California residents have moved to Nevada, Nevada-born residents still make up a plurality of the state’s population.
There were nearly 3.2 million residents in Nevada in 2023, according to the most recent estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The largest share, at more than 27% of the state’s population, or nearly 870,000 people, were born in Nevada.
California-born residents made up the third-largest share of Nevada’s population in 2023, accounting for nearly 20% of the state’s population, or about 625,000 Nevada residents.
People born in another country accounted for about 21% of Nevada’s population in 2023.
Compared with all other states, Nevada had the lowest percentage of residents that were born in the state.
