Is border security the number one issue for voters?
Nevada polls have consistently shown the economy is the top issue for voters, with immigration typically ranking several slots behind but within the top six.
National polls show similar trends. A March poll from NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist found nearly half of Republicans believed the economy was the top issue facing the country, with immigration tied for second at 14%.
Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt said during an event in Las Vegas on Saturday that “the number one issue for voters is our border,” while speaking with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis about security at the country’s southern border with Mexico.
State-level polling shows border security tends to be more important to voters living in states along the southern border, such as Texas.
DeSantis, alongside ally Laxalt, has pursued aggressive immigration policies as Florida’s governor and through his presidential campaign.
