Has violent crime in Las Vegas increased 100% with Joe Lombardo as sheriff?
The Nevada Crime Statistics website maintained by the State of Nevada reports various crime data for the state. It shows Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, had 15,363 violent crimes in 2014, the year before Joe Lombardo became the county’s sheriff. In 2021, there were 9,988 violent crimes, a 35% decrease.
The highest number of violent crimes during Lombardo’s tenure occurred in 2015, his first year in office, when there were 17,208 such crimes, a 12% increase over 2014.
For the purpose reporting crime data, “violent crime” includes murder, nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
