Has the cost of coffee increased by 40 percent since September 2024?
The cost of 1 pound of ground coffee increased by approximately 41 percent from September 2024 to September 2025, jumping from $6.47 to $9.14.
From September 2023 to September 2024, the cost of 1 pound of ground coffee increased by 6 percent.
The U.S. is the world’s largest coffee importer and therefore vulnerable to supply shifts. Global coffee supply declined this year after severe droughts in Brazil and Vietnam, the world’s two largest coffee exporters.
Prices also likely increased due to tariffs introduced in April by the Trump administration against dozens of countries, including major coffee producers such as Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia. Brazil, which provided one-third of U.S. coffee imports in 2023, faced particularly high rates of 50 percent on many consumer goods.
Coffee prices could decrease again as the Trump administration announced last week that coffee products are now exempted from tariffs.
