Has the Ballottrax system provided erroneous voter information during the 2022 general election in Nevada?

By Todd Butterworth
YES

BallotTrax is a web-based tool that allows voters to check the status of their ballot. It is available to Nevada voters under a contract with the secretary of state’s office.

County election officials input the status of voters’ ballots to the BallotTrax system. BallotTrax makes this information available to voters on the web or through email, phone or text updates. The system sometimes has a one- to a two-day lag time before the state BallotTrax website is updated with county information.

Shortly after the 2022 general election in Washoe County, the BallotTrax system experienced problems providing accurate ballot information to voters. County election officials believed the issue was not the county’s fault, as the data uploaded was reported accurately.

In 2020, California began using the BallotTrax system and reported isolated problems, primarily because of human error in inputting data.
