Fact brief: Is Fort Worth ISD considering a four-day school week?
Fort Worth ISD is not considering a four-day school week.
During a community meeting Feb. 27, Superintendent-designate Karen Molinar addressed a resident’s question about shifting the school week.
More than 100 school districts in Texas have moved to a four-day school week.
In February, Tarrant County-based Kennedale ISD approved a four-day school week starting spring 2026.
School districts shifted their weeks in an effort to save some costs.
Texas requires schools provide 75,600 minutes of instructional time during a school year.
In 2020, Fort Worth ISD considered a four-day school week, but decided against it, Molinar said.
“I’ve always been transparent about where we are in our academics, our kids need to be in school longer. We need longer school weeks, not four-day school weeks,” Molinar said. “We will not be looking at a four-day option for schools.”
