Fact Brief: Is California’s Great America in Santa Clara closing?

yes

California’s Great America, an amusement park that’s been a Santa Clara staple for decades, is slated to close by 2033 — but it will likely close as early as 2027.

Six Flags, Great America’s parent company, announced in June the park will close after the 2027 season unless the company decides to extend its lease for another five years. The lease is set to expire June 20, 2028.

Great America’s previous owner, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, which has since merged with Six Flags, sold the property to Bay Area real estate company Prologis, Inc. in 2022. Cedar Fair agreed to lease back the land to keep the park open for up to 11 years. As of November 2025, Six Flags has not made a final decision on the park’s official closure date.
