Does Oklahoma rank #1 in profit per employee among Fortune 500 companies?

An analysis of 2024 data from the Fortune 500 measured the profit per employee of these companies by state and found that Oklahoma ranked #1.

Fortune 500 companies in Oklahoma had an average profit per employee of $1,286,814. That’s 1.7 times that of those in Texas, which ranks #2, and more than 10 times the average of all the states. 12 states do not have any such companies.

Profit per employee can be used to indicate efficiency of a workforce, in addition to economic success. However, this metric varies significantly across various industries due to varying business models and labor needs.

Energy companies, with their high-value assets, comprise 13 of the 20 companies with the highest profit per employee. Oil and gas are the most traded commodities in the world.
